MainStreet Minute: October 2024

by Becca Eza, MainStreet Executive Director

October marks the beginning of our busy season at MainStreet. The weather is finally getting a little cooler and folks are once again strolling the streets downtown. Read on for updates of projects, events, and other news from MainStreet T or C.

On October 10, we held our Show of Hands event, the culmination of a grant-funded business development project.  The winner was Tiffany Ferland of Mile Marker 7 Coffee, who received $5,000 for a second drive-thru window to increase their capacity by over 10 cars an hour. The runner-up was Victoria Harrington of Rebel Roadrunner, who will be using her $2,000 grant to add shoe sales to her boutique.

Have you decided on a Halloween costume yet? The clock is ticking! On Thursday, October 31, from 6-7 pm, MainStreet will host the annual Trick-or-Treat Downtown. Broadway will be closed to traffic, and business will be handing out candy all along Broadway, Main Ave, Foch St, Austin, and elsewhere downtown. Visit the Healing Waters Plaza to enter the MainStreet costume contest. Healing Waters Plaza will also host groups and individuals who don’t have a downtown business and want to participate - if you would like to set out a table or hand out candy from your car at the Plaza, you can sign up at https://tinyurl.com/Trick-or-TreatDowntown.

MainStreet and the City of T or C jointly received a Clean and Beautiful grant for over $18,000, which includes a second round of downtown trash can painting. If you are interested in adopting and painting a trash can, be on the lookout for applications coming out in November.

Stay tuned for upcoming events: a community input meeting for our Wayfinding signage project on November 19, Small Business Saturday on November 30, and Old-Fashioned Christmas and Parade of Lights on December 13.
