RioBravoFineArt: 110 N. Broadway

RioBravoFineArt will be hosting two special events during regular Art Hop hours.

The first event is the opening for the Recycled Art Show sponsored by Sustainable T or C. This opening is a prelude to other events to celebrate Earth Day 2026. On April 22, the official date for Earth Day, there will be a special reception from 5 to 7 pm at RioBravoFineArt. May Art Hop will also be a part of Sustainable T or C events as the Recycled Art Show runs through May 17. For the April 22 reception and both the April and May Art Hops at RioBravoFineArt, there will be representatives from Sustainable T or C to discuss recycling and sustainability. This year, the events of Earth Day in T or C will honor Jeff Barbour, a local artist who was a visionary and craftsperson who made most of his art from upcycled found objects.

The second event is the release of RioBravoFineArt’s poster for World Art Day 2026. This day is observed annually on April 15, Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday, to honor the universal language of art and its power to inspire, unite and transform societies across borders. Special promotional material for World Art Day will be available to all attending Art Hop.

The art community in Carrizozo has been a long-time promoter of World Art Day via their organization World Art Day Carrizozo. They have recently launched World Art Day New Mexico. RioBravoFineArt along with its friends at La Galeria in Mountainair are a part of the beginning phase of World Art Day New Mexico. This organization promises to be a vibrant promoter of the arts in New Mexico.

Truth or Consequences Contemporary: 312 Main

Subject: What Hands Do - A show of new works by Jeannie Ortiz at Truth or Consequences Contemporary

What Hands Do is a body of work that Jeannie Ortiz has been working on for the past year. It is a deeply personal journey brought to life through watercolor paintings, printmaking and pit-fired ceramic sculpture.

Most of the 150+ watercolor paintings that she created have been bound into two handmade books. (That can be explored, with clean hands)

The intaglio prints are 16 botanical studies of plants from northern New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. One set of these prints was also bound into a large format book entitled ‘What are The Colors of the Place You Love Most in This World.’ There will also be a body of these prints - many of which have also benefited from watercolored - on view on the walls.

There is also a sculpture component to this installation. Ceramics was Jeannie’s first love. She began pit-firing clay pieces in high school and studied it more deeply in college. With great joy, in the last year she has been drawn back into this form of creating. This installation is a meditation on deep time, lineage and loss.

All of these works come together in a study of what it means to be a floating body in this world, to be both deeply connected to and completely severed from our past. A deep meditation on new connections to understand ones body through the act of creating and connecting to the non-human world.
