Oasis Dwellers:

The July Art Hop marks the 10th year anniversary of Jeannie and Kyle running a gallery at 324 Broadway. Please come join us for this landmark celebration.

We are humbled by the constant support and love bestowed by this wonderful community - we thank each and every one of you that has enjoyed the art we create over the years. It is a great privilege to be able to show the art we do on our own terms, and have it collected and enjoyed by those who we cohabit this magical time and place with.

THANK YOU!

In June of 2012 Olin West asked Jeannie and Kyle to join him in running his Mud Mountain Studio. Olin and Mud Mountain Studio at this point already had a long and storied history as a gallery founded at the turn of the millenium in Truth or Consequences. The space Olin created was perfect and embodied all that a stunning gallery should try to attain.

From this humble invitation we have constantly evolved and morphed into the space you know today. This was never a linear progression - instead it was an organic series of permutations involving countless individuals from our community.

In the early years Jeannie wove and Kyle painted day in and day out at the gallery, open 7 long days per week. After a couple of years we took a full (burn out induced) break and Reed and Olin continued to run the gallery for some time.

Olin was ever watchful that us kids didn't sink the ship during these days. He taught us the dark arts of the gallerist, kept the course as we learned and wavered for the first few years and then finally set us off to find our own direction. Without Olin Desert Archaic would have never even been a dream.

Many of you probably remember Seba - that moody space we created with Josh Candelaria during the mid 20-teens. Others might think back fondly to our resident mad scientist Andrew Potter: always ready to wow and dazzle with the latest biology he was growing or his orations about the pros and cons of mitochondria. Our foray into the world of listening concerts was fostered by Rob Stroup and Rooster back before the brewery opened and became the go to for music in this town. Ashe and Chantal then energized the space for a couple of years right before the pandemic dropped its debut album.

Above all else though, there has been our steadfast partner in this project Reed Rische. He above all has kept the space alive, open and thriving - without him Desert Archaic would no longer exist. We thank him eternally.

Please join us on Saturday night as we show off our latest works and marvel at the fact that 10 years later we are still slinging art in this dusty oasis town.

Love Always, Kyle

Galactic Digs Gallery (320 Broadway) open for July Art Hop! New art from Mary Iron Elk (glass etchings, painted feathers), Don Hallock (found object art), Anne Dimit-Buckley (shadowbox quilts) and Laurie Lewis (beaded bracelets and framed work). Ongoing pieces by Cody Mullen (acid reaction on steel), Solomon Stone (psychedelic photography) and Barbara A Morrow (woven works). Looking forward to a fun evening!
