MainStreet Minute: October 2025

Join us for Trick or Treat Downtown on Friday, October 31, from 6 to 7 p.m. Put on your best costume and join the fun at our annual downtown Halloween celebration. Enter the MainStreet costume contest at Healing Waters Plaza, and visit participating businesses along Broadway, Main, and throughout downtown for treats and spooky fun. Businesses and community groups that don’t have a downtown location are welcome to sign up for a space at the Plaza - contact us for details on how to participate.

All Sierra County business owners, operators, and community leaders are invited to our quarterly MainStreet Business Breakfast on Monday, November 10, at 8 a.m. at Jones Street Secondhand, 303 Jones Street. Enjoy breakfast and coffee while networking with other business owners and sharing updates about your business or upcoming projects. Please RSVP so we can plan for food and seating; contact information is below.

As the holiday shopping season approaches, we encourage everyone to shop local and keep dollars circulating in our community. Before buying gifts online, take a stroll through downtown or visit one of the many small shops throughout Sierra County to discover unique gifts and support your neighbors. To celebrate local businesses, we’ll hold a Small Business Saturday event on November 29. Shop at any locally owned Sierra County business that day, and exchange your receipts for raffle tickets for a chance to win a gift card to a local business. More details will be announced soon.

MainStreet will soon be hiring a part-time Fiesta Coordinator to assist with planning Fiesta 2026. The position averages 20 to 25 hours per month and can largely be done from home. If you’re organized, detail-oriented, and interested in this opportunity, contact us for the full job description and application details - application deadline is Wednesday, November 5.

One last exciting bit of news - at New Mexico MainStreet's 40th Anniversary Award Ceremony on October 15 in Alamogordo, MainStreet T or C received two major recognitions. Linda DeMarino, current Board President and former Executive Director, received an award for her contributions to MainStreet over the past 15+ years. Additionally, the 2023 MainStreet T or C project, "Here's Your Sign", received a Certificate of Excellence.

If you’d like to learn more about MainStreet T or C or get involved as a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. Stop by our office at 308 S. Pershing, visit our website at www.torcmainstreet.org, email us at director@torcmainstreet.org, or follow us on Facebook.
